Scott and Sons are at it again, with another charity event in the pipeline!
Our very own Guy Scott will be taking part in this year’s Great South Run on Sunday 26th October, running alongside his good friend Nicola Buck.
The cause
An extremely popular run, The Bupa Great South Run has raised over £30 million throughout the years for various charities, from The British Heart Foundation to The Alzheimer’s Society to name just a few. Guy and Nicola will be running in memory of Nicola’s friend, Lucy, who sadly lost her battle to Melanoma in April 2013. During her last few weeks, Lucy was welcomed at The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, where the attentive staff made her time here as comfortable as possible. So Nicola and Guy will be donating their fundraising money, to give a little back to such an amazing and hardworking hospice!
The location
Originally starting in Southampton back in 1990, the run has now moved to the nearby welcoming seaside destination of Portsmouth. The 10 mile run will take them past iconic sites of the historical dockyard including; Portsmouth Cathedral, Spinnaker Tower and HMS Victory, not to mention the beautiful views of the Isle of Wight. The final, gruelling stretch is along the seafront and is where the runners have the opportunity to pick up their speed on this flat terrain, welcoming the fresh sea breeze to help them during their final, taxing push!
The run
Amongst Nicola and Guy, there will be twenty-five thousand participants made up of local runners, celebrities and athletes, all taking part in the run and donning their lovely sporting attire, decorating the road into a flamboyant mass of colour! Athletic runners over the years have included the likes of Mo Farah and Paula Radcliffe, so if you come down on the day make sure you keep your eyes peeled for this year’s talent!
