How To Clean An Oven

It’s very easy to close the door on your oven and pretend the burning smell isn’t there. But over time – and after many cooked dinners – the fumes will inevitably get stronger and stronger from the burnt grease. When this happens, you know it’s finally time to admit defeat, get the gloves out and clean the oven!

If your oven has an auto-cleaning setting, feel free to try this out. This works by burning everything, turning all the burnt bits of food to ash, which can then be swept out and cleaned. But for those of you who want to try cleaning the oven yourself, follow our simple steps:

Step 1:

Wearing your gloves, remove any bits of food you can see lying in the oven.

Step 2:

Remove the shelves and place them in warm soapy water. Using washing up liquid, wipe these clean and leave to air dry.

Step 3:

Open windows and doors in the room, to keep it well ventilated before you start the deep clean.

Step 4:

With the oven switched off, apply the oven cleaner to the inside of the oven and to the inside of the oven door - try to avoid the door seals though as the chemicals can react with the rubber. Use hot soapy water to clean these separately.

Step 5:

Close the oven door and leave the cleaner to work its magic for roughly 30 minutes. This will allow the oils and chemicals to break down the tough stains, grease and grime.

Step 6:

Using a hard bristled brush, scrub the whole of the inside of the oven until you feel you have covered all areas - pay close attention to the bottom of the oven.

Step 7:

Wipe off the cleaning solution using a cloth. Remember to keep rinsing the cloth out, so you don’t spread the dirt around any further.
