How To Clean A Fridge
You can close the door on a fridge and simply forget about its contents. However, there will come a time that you have to acknowledge the nasty smells and stained shelves and give your fridge a good clean out.
This should include throwing away any out-of-date food, as well as giving the inside of the fridge a thorough clean too.
Equipment Needed:
- Bin Bag
- Rubber Gloves
- Sponge / Cloth
- Disinfectant
- Washing Up Liquid
The contents:
Step 1:
Empty the entire contents of your fridge and lay it all out on the worktop or table.
Step 2:
Throw away any food that has gone past it’s sell-by-date, or any items that are starting to look past their best.
Step 3:
Once you have cleared out all the gone off food, make sure you take the bin bag straight out to the dustbin so your house doesn’t begin to smell.
Cleaning the detachable items:
Step 1:
Remove any shelving or drawers that can be detached and place in a bowl of warm soapy water. Be careful not to wash the items in too hot water as the combination of cold glass and hot water could cause the glass to shatter.
Step 2:
Using a sponge, clean the entire surface of the item. If there are any stubborn stains, apply more washing up liquid and pressure to remove it.
Step 3:
Allow these to completely dry before putting them back into the fridge.

Returning the food:
Step 1:
Once you have finished cleaning the entire fridge and everything is dry, you can return the shelves and drawers.
Step 2:
Wipe down any jars and lids with a damp cloth and place all the food back inside.
Top tip: Leave an opened box of baking soda at the back of your fridge. Baking soda naturally absorbs odours so will help keep your fridge free from unwanted smells!
